Not to say this isn't a good price, but wasn't there a previous deal in the recent (last two months) for $269 or so for the yellow and pink models? I did a search and didn't find it, so either I'm hallucinating or I'm bad at searching. The reason I'm asking is 1. OP says this is the lowest price on a recent deal (and that would be wrong if I am indeed recalling the previous deal) and 2. I'm hoping that deal comes back. If I'm wrong then by all means down vote me.

In 7 years, Apple will end all updates for it, making the tablet practically useless. You will not be able to download any new apps on the app store because most will require newer OS versions. Happened to my $600 2012 iPad many years ago which is basically a paperweight.

7 years is longer support than any other device similar on the market

Weird. I have an iPad Air 2 that came out in 2014. It still works just fine.

Yeah, you bought yours at a better time. My iPad 4 update support ended in September 2017 because apps started requiring a iOS version that only supports later models. Mine did not have the required hardware for any future updates. I could still download many new apps until 2019. Stupid how we cannot download older versions of apps on the Apple Store but only those you already have downloaded. Expect yours to eventually suffer the same fate.

AI Overview:
Yes, updates for the iPad 4th generation were discontinued by Apple in September 2017. The final iOS versions for this model were iOS 10.3.3 (for Wi-Fi only models) and iOS 10.3.4 (for Wi-Fi & Cellular models). It cannot be updated to later versions of iOS due to hardware limitations and the fact that it is based on a 32-bit platform, which is now considered obsolete.
Elaboration:
  • Final Updates:
Apple stopped supporting the iPad 4 with new software updates in September 2017.
  • Hardware Limitations:
The iPad 4 is not capable of running the latest versions of iOS/iPadOS because it lacks the required hardware and is based on an older 32-bit architecture.
  • App Compatibility:
Many app developers have also dropped support for older devices, including the iPad 4, leading to limitations in accessing newer apps.
  • No More Updates:
You cannot update your iPad 4 to iOS 16, 17, 18, or any future versions.

AI Overview:
Apple typically supports iPads with major software updates for around 5-7 years, and may continue to provide security updates for an additional 2-3 years. This means you can expect your iPad to receive regular updates to the latest operating system for several years, and potentially even longer for security patches.
More Details:
  • Major Software Updates:
iPads usually receive updates to the main iOS/iPadOS versions, which include new features and performance improvements, for a period of 5-7 years.
  • Security Updates:
Apple also provides security updates, which address vulnerabilities and potential threats, for a longer period, potentially 10 years or more.
  • Third-Party App Support:
While Apple may stop supporting the latest OS for an older iPad, third-party app developers may still support these devices with their apps for an additional 2-3 years.
  • Example:
An iPad Air (4th generation) released in 2020 would have been supported with major updates until around 2027, and may continue to receive security updates for a few more years after that.

That's not the same thing. That's stating those devices will continue to receive updates, but past those 7 years you'll still be able to download many apps from Google Play, where as with older iOS devices, you cannot even use the App Store. Even for very old versions of Android, you may not find many apps on Play that still work, but you still can in theory.

If you get 7 years out of a 300 tablet that's pretty good IMO anyway.
