No, you don't have to keep the lid opened. You can change the setting for what the laptop does when the lid is closed. Normally, it would go to sleep, but you can disable that.

How does it compare? My old PC is 10 years old, windows 10 about to be obsolete, and I was told 32gb is good for multiple monitors, video editing. I don't really game on this so it's all work and travel. Plus I like that it has 11pro because I wanna do some VMs. I don't really care for touch screen.
Since the price is similar, which is the better deal:
this MicroCenter (new) or the Dell Inspiron open box deal (good condition)?
And is one considerably better/more powerful than the other (graphics card, processor, etc)?

I won't be doing any serious gaming on this, but l will be using photoshop and illustrator for work and often have A LOT of tabs open for hours on end --- and like responsiveness.

So many people overlook the capabilities of laptops and still consider desktops more reliable. In my experience, they are equally prone to breakdown all while one is stationary and the other is portable. Obviously, within decent care.
