Mug is plastic unlike other Bodum mugs. And I've had good experiences with other pourovers, mainly Oxo and goodcook koffe, both of which also include a reservoir. The goodcook unit also offers a 16 ounce capacity, good if you want more than the typical 12.

Which carafe do you recommend? Also, do you have a preference for kettle (it seems goosenecks are at a premium)?

Thanks so much for this insight -- I've been using a moka pot for a while & looking to branch out into pourovers

Assuming you mean a pourover carafe - I actually like Bodum's carafe although I don't use their reusable filters, just Melitta unbleached paper filters. Not for any quality reason, I just find the metal filters hard to keep clean.

Gooseneck - so I might be banished from the coffee klatsch for this but while I admit a gooseneck makes control easy and also looks nice, instead I use water from an electric urn with selectable temperatures and a disposable hot cup to distribute it over grounds. I just pinch the edge to make a little spout.

Look, I like a good coffee as much as the next snob but I also have to be practical and I'm not going to wait for every step of the ritual, every morning, if a shortcut provides almost the same qualities. It's also why I opt for pourovers with a reservoir so I can walk away. You can still use it without the reservoir on a weekend if you want broodily contemplate some blooming grounds while wondering how you got here.

Bodum makes good stuff and you did find a decent price on this set. Thanks for posting a coffee-related deal.

Thanks. I am interested in trying pour over butI don't want to spend a bunch of time doing the process. I looked at the Goodcook Koffe and like the auto drip feature, unfortunately I don't like the plastic dripper. I'll try to find something like that that is either glass or stainless.
