I know it's not Christmas, but I'm a bit surprised these are just in stock everywhere. Maybe it's the $80 game price turning people away.

On Costco no. The best one to get is at Walmart with the 4-year plan. Use a qualified Amex card and get an additional 1 year for a total of 5.

Last major console launches were in the middle of covid. Between the chip shortages and everyone being home bored there was a huge demand. Things have stablized now, people are also a bit more cautious about dropping $500 at the moment and from what I was reading, Nintendo has been churning out consoles since mid January to have a huge inventory available at launch. Also, other than Mario Kart World, there really arn't any launch exclusives.
Just a multitude of factors in the consumers favor right now.
