I bought the equivalent non-smart version over a year ago, also from Walmart. It's been absolutely fantastic and I haven't had a single problem with it so far, even with running both the inner & outer basket through the dishwasher. Non-stick coating on both is still in great shape. Overall it's a far, far better unit than the 1st gen Philips air fryer I bought many, many years ago.

There is a "test procedure" in the manual which is basically just running it at its highest temperature for several minutes. Definitely do that before cooking anything in it and wash it afterwords. That initial run, which I think I ran through twice, takes care of any sort of plastic odor that comes from heating up the plastic. If you're sensitive to smells you may want to do the initial test procedure outside.

Oh, the one thing I did do was tighten down all of the screws inside of the basket before I started using it, and that was just because I ran across a review that mentioned that they loosened up over time. I've checked periodically since then and I haven't had to re-tighten any of them.
