Kind of - I've used many a variety of dishwasher, washing machine, etc pods/pucks/etc that all claim they do the same general thing, but the one thing they all cannot do, is... scrub. That friction matters.
Dishwasher will look 'clean' on the walls, but check the drain. The sludge is still there as it simply cannot agitate it off, so you may think your dishwasher is clean, but the innards are not. That sludge gets steamed and creeps back up, often being the film that ends up on the walls (and dishes!) you think you're solving with these pucks.
Same goes for similar washing machine pucks/pods/etc. The rubber seal that tends to get moldy, won't ever be clean (even if running cycles with straight bleach) without.... agitating/scrubbing. Bleach alone can't cut through it all, nor can the pucks.
In other words, these aren't bad, but they are NOT 100% your solution. Elbow grease is.
The washing machine cleaner tablets work well, I throw in a couple once a month, but I bought a pack of 48 for $10 from Amazon within the last year, so I don't think 24 tablets for $16 is a particularly good price.

How did you observe them "working well." I've used them and have not noticed a difference.
Eliminating odors. My LG Washing Machine gets some funky smell in it after a while and the tub looks itself fine, but I assume the smell is coming from an area I can't reach, like in the water line/hose maybe.
Stuff is useless. All of it. You need to scrub. This stuff may mask stench for a few days. For washing machine, its soap and baking soda. It will leave clumps of discolored baking soda on the drum and you think its all gunk bit is mainly just baking soda. Just use baking soda and a little soap and run clean cycles, wipe down drump, then do it again.
Don't forget to leave the door open like others said and leave the detergent tray out. Mine developed black mold and these tablets will not touch it. Get scrubbing!
I bought the washing machine tablets a while back.
$16 now? Do these people think they're selling crack?
I can't tell any difference after using them. Basically these things are just citric acid anyway, so my suggestion would be to just buy some of that in bulk instead.
Just don't use too much laundry detergent and you'll never need to "clean" your washing machine.
The little brown flakes that come out in droves once in a while are over used washing machine detergents. Use sparingly like tablespoon sizes maybe two of those is enough. Anything more, and it creates this flakes that will ruin your clothing and is a hassle to get out. Drying them helps but still messy and a hassle.
