Why this low? Isn't it supposed to double Sundara?

It says regular price at Amazon is $359
And now $289
So not sure if that $999 price tag is correct

That's a loaded question. There isn't just one amp or amp + dac that works best. Tons of options would work well. You'd want to research different options and try to find something that fits your budget.

I owned this pair for about a year before letting it go. Ultimately for me, it was a bit analytical and although it had a great sound stage and imaging, it wasn't as warm and musical is my HD6XX paired with a tube amp. Luckily for me, it was a refurb model so got it for just under this price at $259, and sold it for about $200. I considered moving up to the Ayra Stealth but haven't had the need and now I am enjoying music to simply enjoy my music. Chasing the dragon sometimes makes us forgot why we're in this hobby and to me its to enjoy our music, not to throw a ton of money on gear and looking at measurements.

Hifiman says that the HE-R9s that were on offer yesterday are $599, because hifiman lists them that way. In reality, that's not been the price for years and they actually sell for $79. It's just the way hifiman themselves present the alleged msrp, which is their out-of-the-factory price on the day they're released.

I really want these at this price but should I sell my Sundaras, because I can't afford to keep both? I suspect the answer will be "maybe, maybe not" ... but I really want these anyway ... Ebay has these for $245 inc shipping for used from an authorized dealer, too.

I own these and am now selling mine. For this price, quite decent. Light and fairly comfortable, though I don't love the head band. The sound, as others have said, is analytical and clear: great for acoustic music. If paired with a good tube amp, these are EXTREMELY good for this price.

These vs Sundaras for mixed use - home theater, music, gaming?

I own Sundaras and have been very happy with them..

side note - Just bought a pair of Audeze Maxwell mainly for gaming - they blew me away in terms of build quality, versatility, battery life, and sound quality with the included 2.4ghz wireless dongle. Superior bitrate to any Bluetooth codec, and planar magnetic just like these Hifiman. Huge bang for the buck.

Anybody know how these headphones compare to AKG K612, Grado SR80, or AKG K240? Those are the only other cans I've ever heard. I have had planar SPEAKERS before (Chane A2.4) as well as ribbon tweeter speakers (Wharfedale Evo 4.2, Ascend Sierra 2EX) and love them for their incredible detail sans harshness, but never planar headphones... Can I expect similar musical qualities as with the speakers? I listen mainly to jazz, classical, and some vocal/guitar dominant rock, but nothing bass heavy.

From my experience I find planars to be terrible with tube amps...

HIFIMAN also sells them on Amazon (shipped by Amazon) and eBay. The same price.
SANDARA is $229 on eBay sold by HIFIMAN.
Edition XS is $269 on eBay sold by HIFIMAN.

I just searched HIFIMAN on eBay. They sell all their stuff there. 42 items. Around 30 are headphones and earbuds.
