Not if you clean and prep your surface correctly. I have been using one for a while with no issues. Clean the surface with some water and let it cook off. Oil the surface while hot and cover everything. I use a couple of paper towels to spread just like seasoning. Let it cool and put this on. never a speck of rust starting for me even if it goes a while between uses

There are no microplastics in silicone, it's a completely different (and food safe) chemical compound.

Don't these things just help to seal moisture and encourage surface to rust?

I do mine the same way - clean with water, re-oil the surface, no rust for me either.

Good Deal on a silicone mat. Don't want to chance it in case it's not a perfect fit.

Thx for your input. I basically do the same, also can see how it can be functional in one's Blackstone doesn't have top lid/cover.
In my case I just clean, oil and sear the surface almost every time I'm done cooking, drop the lid and drag the damn thing back in the garage.

And all that from the fear of having it rust and having to do all the extra work to revive it back to working condition.

Do you use the one design like in this post? I see others on Amazon that offer protection for the sides.

I had one of these last year. It seems to protect from rust, but in my case the silicone started developing mold spots like the flexzilla garden hose. Threw it away because only bleach would "clean it" but then the silicone had weak/color faded spots that would mold back faster.

My thoughts exactly. Even if there isn't any moisture at the time, most people store their Blackstone outside. There's moisture in the air which will get under this mat. (Unless you live in a very dry place like Arizona)
