Yes, lots of flash memory products have gone to shit, probably due to companies switching to using TLC and even QLC NAND. Even the big brands are not immune. My old Samsung Pro SD cards can easily write data at 60-80MB/s non stop. The newer Samsung Pro Plus SD cards I bought in the last couple of years can't match that.

The Samsung FIT/BAR Plus are greatat first. Unfortunately, all the ones I've used in the last few years suffer from rapid degradation. I wouldn't count on it. Most modern USB flash drives have dreadful performance, particularly when it comes to 4K random writes (often <10KB/s). I've basically switched to using MicroSD cards in a slim USB reader.

That's odd. All the Samsung MicroSD cards I've tested have been able to maintain almost exactly what they advertise on the package. The Pro Plus cards had no issue maintaining 100MB/s+ from beginning to end (in the Samsung reader).
