My workbench had a steel pegboard and I hated it!
The hooks kept falling out and I later realized it is because the metal was thinner than a typical pegboard is. The pegs on the hooks essentially had no friction or compression to keep them in place. The shallow metal also meant it was always loose so it easily wiggled out of the pegs.
I ended up 3d printing a customizable cover (Multiboard) to attach over my pegboard and now I use it all the time.

Make sure you never watch The Wizard of Oz. You'll never want to own a home again either.

I have several of these. I use them to engrave my prophecies and warnings for future generations, to prevent Ruin from changing the words.

Thanks. I'll add that I installed basic brown (paintable) pegboard almost 20 years ago in a humid workshop and it is still completely perfect. I don't think being metal adds any benefit.

Not all metal pegboard is created equally. I've got one as well, but it's a heavy gauge metal and the pegs stay put just fine. I can't remember what brand it was, but I know it was quite a bit more expensive than this.

Particle pegboard can work just fine in some environments, but my workshop tends to get messy and nothing beats being able to quickly douse the thing in simple green every now and then to keep it clean.

Get bigger pieces, not metal, at Home Depot or Lowes or equivalent. If you need this tiny an area of pegboard, you don't need pegboard at all. I have about 30 square feet of pegboard in the garage, and I love it. I find tools so much faster. Rarely used ones up high. Common in the middle. Heavy down low. Pipe wrenches. Saw blades. Regular wrenches. Pliers. Sockets. It's just all out there, waiting to be grabbed.
