Swamp ass never sells for shit in the US. Whether PRS, Charvel, Jackson, etc. Fine guitars. Just not a big looker.

I like that PRS is trying stuff these days. β€”and also it doesn't matter much. But a bolt on PRS-especially with the PRS shape- just doesn't compute for me.

Here's some advice I've shared here before, in case it's helpful:

I'd suggest you go to a guitar store, try a dozen different styles and take notes on what's most comfortable and fun to play. Glossy neck vs satin neck? Thick 50s U or V, thin shredder neck, or in the middle? What body shapes are comfortable when sitting, or standing with a strap? (I prefer Jazzmasters/Jaguars, personally).

Sitting down with the exact specimen and feeling it in hand will always be better to judge an emotional connection between player and instrument than an online sale.

Also, check out justinguitar.com for free lessons generally, but also this beginner buying guide:

they've got a Charcoal Swamp Ash Special for $579.

What's throwing me off is they look like the same guitar, but the Charcoal has a 5-way switch like a Strat and the Sunburst has a 3-way toggle like an LP or SG.

See below for explanation. It uses a push pull pot instead to create similar selections. 5 Way is a lot more straight forward and has a push pull tap also.

I bought one last time they were on special and I'm very happy with it, but then I'm partial to maple necks, stout bodies, & nice curves. I can echo the advice to beginners - go to the shop first to find the one that feels right because guitars vary across brands, models, & years, and sometimes even within the same model. Never buy a guitar without playing it first (a rule I obey only about 30% of the time) (<
