Having said that im guess the amazon mats arent the highest quality. Platinum grade mats arent really that expensive, maybe a few bucks more.
You can bake it at a high heat to boil off the smell, but I've decided a sheet of "parchment paper" is much easier.

by hand, yes. I just keep it in the metal baking sheet and scrub both sides of the silicone mat.
otherwise, dishwasher works fine, but you should pin it down somehow so it doesn't come loose (especially if you're using the heated drying option of your dishwasher).
I don't find that to be the case at all. I can't imagine baking (including cookies) without them.

How do you know if it's platinum

Honestly no idea what the safe level is, the latest science in teflon catalysis, or how it relates to this or any other product, but please don't throw around numbers as an appeal to authority unless you're sure of what you're talking about.

Fair enough. I've never put mine in the dishwasher and never had any problems.

Having said that I have no idea how to ensure the company that says it is platinum cured is actually telling the truth.
So all their efforts went TU?
We have these, my wife loves them. I still like parchment, it extends beyond the baking sheet to catch liquids...these just make a mess. Fine for biscuits or cookies or dry stuff, though.
