Silicones are banned in EU for being just as toxic as PFAS/PFOA
Some but not all silicone. The newest restriction starts in 2026 and products can still use the bad ingredients at a .1% or less concentration.

Having said that im guess the amazon mats arent the highest quality. Platinum grade mats arent really that expensive, maybe a few bucks more.
I've found that silicone mats readily absorb flavors. If you get this to be a dedicated cookie baking sheet, that would probably work with hand washing. If you put it in the dishwasher it will smell like dishwater and detergent, leading to an awful batch of chocolate chip cookies, as I learned from experience.

You can bake it at a high heat to boil off the smell, but I've decided a sheet of "parchment paper" is much easier.

by hand, yes. I just keep it in the metal baking sheet and scrub both sides of the silicone mat.

otherwise, dishwasher works fine, but you should pin it down somehow so it doesn't come loose (especially if you're using the heated drying option of your dishwasher).

I don't find that to be the case at all. I can't imagine baking (including cookies) without them.

.1% would be one parts per thousand, 1000ppm, 1,000,000 ppb. PFAS is considered harmful in ppt concentrations.

Honestly no idea what the safe level is, the latest science in teflon catalysis, or how it relates to this or any other product, but please don't throw around numbers as an appeal to authority unless you're sure of what you're talking about.

Fair enough. I've never put mine in the dishwasher and never had any problems.

Platinum grade/cured silicone doesn't have any PFAs. Or any other chemical in it for that matter, pure silicone.

I don't know if there is some sort of certificate but it is always marketed as silicone platinum cured or platinum graded. It is a different curing process than lesser silicone. Uses platinum as the catalyst leaving a pure product, no other chemical additives. It is used in medical equipment and (proper) baby products. It is medical grade.

Having said that I have no idea how to ensure the company that says it is platinum cured is actually telling the truth.

So all their efforts went TU? Smilie

We have these, my wife loves them. I still like parchment, it extends beyond the baking sheet to catch liquids...these just make a mess. Fine for biscuits or cookies or dry stuff, though.
