Not worth it. This saw does not have the laser or led light which show where the blade exactly lines up on the wood. My cheap ryobi has this feature and I would not live without it at this point.

The DW780 does have a light that casts a precise shadow where the blade is. I would keep an eye out for that saw instead.

Alternatively, you can get this one and add a shadow line with OEM parts from the 780. There are kits available online for $100-$120 [mmtoolparts.com], which is typically much less than the difference in price between the DWS779 and 780. I went this route a few years ago and it worked out great.

I did the exact same thing with the MMtoolparts kit on my DWS779 and couldn't be happier. I like the shadow much better than any laser I've seen. The precision with the Dewalt light is such that I can get cuts dead on every time.

Good saw, i got it for $250 around memorial day. I already have components to add the shadow line (about $15) but didnt have time to install it.

$15? What components do you have?

If you buy the OEM components separately rather than in a kit, I would expect the costs to be in the region of $20 for the handleset, $30 for the worklight and $30 for the power supply. I went with the kit when I did mine because it was only marginally more expensive than the components and included a harness. $15 for the components really would be a slickdeal!

Where from? Cheapest I saw was $287.50 and the deal only lasted a few hours.

Couple of things. First, you can install one. Second, you can bring the blade down to the wood before cutting to see where the blade will cut. The laser just helps save the user the couple of seconds it takes to do this. People make it out like, without the laser, there's no way to know where the blade will cut

The bundle on sale with the stand is for the non sliding single bevel Dewalt.

I recently went down the miter saw rabbit hole. The only difference between this and the $649 DWS780 is the LED shadow line. You can spend like $100 to get a kit and make it look OEM, or alternatively there are ways to rig up your own for like $20. Keep in mind that this saw needs a LOT of clearance between it and a wall. It also weighs around 70 pounds. Also, if you don't care for brand new, check out marketplace or pawn shops for some great deals.

Is that still true? I know that it used to be true that the 779 and 780 were identical except for the light, but I've also read that in recent years they've downgraded the 779 compared to the 780 in other ways.
