I set up my parents a home theater mini PC in their living room, hooked up to their TV. The PC is in the cabinet under the TV behind closed door. But I gave them a Logitech K400 wireless keyboard which connects to a USB unifying receiver that plugs into USB port. For the sake of simplicity it would be preferable to just plug it into the front USB slot on the PC, but since I was having some inconsistent performance between the keyboard and the unifying receiver I used a USB extension cord like this plugged into the PC and I located the unifying receiver up by the TV in line of sight of where the keyboard will be used in the room for a much better experience.

But, they can be used for virtually any USB device. Let's say you have a bulky laser printer but don't have room for it on your desk, right next to your computer. And let's say the USB-A to USB-B cord you already have isn't long enough to reach the location for the printer… you could take that cord you already have and use this to extend it farther in lieu of ordering a more niche 12-15 foot USB-A to USB-B cord. You could even plug these 2 USB extenders into each other and make a 12 foot extension - this "daisy chaining" would work fine for something like a printer but I wouldn't recommend it for any higher bandwidth applications.

I like having a few of these extenders handy because they provide some versatility. Especially if you want to try plugging something in on the other side of the room from your computer in a temporary sense that it wouldn't make sense to invest in a long cord specifically for that because it will be changed later

Good to have. I'm actually just finishing up on a new standing desk setup for my wife and I and have a few cables that are just a bit too tightly managed. This should fix that.

yes for heavily loaded usb and long lengths active cables/hubs are necessary or the drop out gremlins will appear.
