Depending on the bike, you might be able to put the rear hook through the rear triangle and the front just under the body of the bike but it might be a little precarious. You could also try hooking the rear one under the saddle maybe?

you need a bike rack crossbar, its basically a clamp on bar that provides your bike a top tube so you can use em on bike racks
