Filter and softener serve different purposes. A lot of homes have both - a softener and whole house filter -- especially if you have very hard water. Soft water can really prolong the life of your appliances like dishwasher, refrigerator icemaker, washing machine etc.

I believe they use standard 10" x 4.5" filters you can buy in most big box stores (no proprietary gaskets and such). Worst case, you can always hop on Amazon. Waterdrop is a pretty well established company:
