No TB3 40/32.5 Gbps, FYI. Falls back to USB on TB3 systems.

Thanks but I prefer TB4 speeds for my boot drive.

Tb4 and tb3 have the same max bandwidth

You are absolutely right here. I just wanted to add that although the TB3 standard supports a maximum total bandwidth of 40G like TB4, this is optional and is only required to have a minimum bandwidth of 20G. TB4 just made 40G mandatory. Saying that, the D50 does support 40G.

Also, another clarification which should be mentioned is that TB3/4 only supports up to 32G for data transmission. This is because the other 8G is allocated to video. So, don't expect anywhere near 40G when using this, or any other TB3/4 NVME enclosure.

I bought the enclosure from B&H and installed a Samsung Pro 990 4TB drive into it today. I connected it to a Thunderbolt port on my Mac Studio M2 and ran a benchmark using Samsung Magician. I got a sequential read score of 3300MB/second and a sequential write score of 3187MB/second. The connection seems stable, so I am satisfied. I'm using the cable that came with the enclosure.

I generally use a 10Gb network connection to edit photos on a server, but this solution will let me work a bit faster locally.

Very worth noting. He's using a Mac with full tb3 thankfully

this is the original way to expand mac mini m4 before people making replaceable ssd. but when the SSD came out, they advertised SSD is better and doing this way has disconnect issues and sometimes won't boot up with external device, do you know it's because of people using the cheaper $20 devices? or this OWC has the same issue too?
I still haven't upgrade my Mac mini m4 due to the crazy price of the replacement SSD going up crazy due to the tarrifs
I set up this dock with my Mac Mini M4 the day they came out and it has worked flawlessly. I have never had a disconnect or issue and the 4TB NVME I am using seems like it Is the part of the Mac. It has been plug it in and forget it.

Just an add on drive. I run my programs off the internal since that only uses up 70 or so gigs. All my music and files are on the NVME and I'm streaming music and recording shows to it with Plex all the time.

Bummer, was hoping this would stick around for a day or two.

Just picked up a 4TB 990 Pro Samsung drive for $6.07 thanks to some samsung promo codes from a couple of q990d soundbar orders that ended in debacles.

is this the best enclosure for the this drive?
