i bought a refurbished version of this fan a few months back and no, it is not reversible without actually flipping the fan over.

Be careful leaving this style fan on overnight. We used a Holmes just like this one for years without issue (downstairs, in our LR). Then one night our dog woke us up barking and the whole house was filled with smoke. The fire investigation determined that the fan motor seized, overheated and then caught fire. The fire ignited the plastic fan, ran up the cord into the wall and spread quickly from there. In all the fire did over $70k worth of damage, burned up several of our pets and took the life of one of the cats.

It says "Manually" reversible and I don't see the standard switches to do it, so I wonder if the motors can't be reversed. Didn't know there were any like that out there, but description also says that it has low and high speeds, so they are definitely cutting costs anyway possible.

For what it's worth, I've gotten a few of the Genesis window fans for high-$20's in "used-like new" condition from amazon and they have been absolute champs.

wow, now I don't feel so bad paying $7 at the garage sales instead of $3-$5 range.

Yes. There is a button on it to manually change fan direction. It states "manual reverse" because the Bluetooth or wireless versions require you to physically push the button.
Reviews make it seem like you have to manually turn around the fan

Looks like the fan is one direction only and you have to pick up and flip the fan around to reverse the air flow.

from what I am reading and understanding from it that it has a switch. here's what was in the description as follows; VERSATILE REVERSIBLE FUNCTION: Take advantage of the manual reverse option provided by this twin blade window fan. With this feature, you can switch between two modes of operation.

There is one in BJs for $29 that is reversible. Without manually moving it that is.

Are there better ideas using PC fans vs this? I've been thinking of building one.

I bought this same fan 3 years ago at Walmart for 13$. It works really well for the price. I messed up though thinking I could mount it vertically but both the expanders are soft and it's made to sit on the window sill and not inside the frame like the more expensive models. I would suggest, (especially if you're looking to really cool your space) if you have horizontal sliding windows to spend a bit more and get the one that fits inside the frame that you don't have to manually reverse.
