Seagate has the 18TB external expansion drive on sale for $229.99 -10% coupon (via email signup) for a total before taxes of $206.99. I ordered two of these a few days apart and shucked them, they contain the EXOS drive ST18000NM000J. This comes out to $11.49/TB for a brand new EXOS drive.

To get the coupon:
  1. Load the page in an InPrivate/Incognito window, make sure you don't have an ad blocker on.
  2. Accept the cookie prompt
  3. If the "Want 10% off pop-up doesn't show after a few seconds, reload the page. This has worked for me every time.
  4. When you get the popup, enter your email address.
  5. When you get prompted for phone number you can put a fake number in there, there is no verification text to get the code.
  6. Code shows up in a few minutes to your inbox.

I found this video helpful for shucking the drive from the case:

Details for the drive before shucking
Model No: STKP28000400
Seagate Expansion desktop hard drive is user-friendly, requiring only a power adapter and USB cable to get started.
USB 3.0 allows fast file transfers for efficient data management.
Easily save files by simply dragging and dropping them, with no additional setup required.
It automatically recognizes both Windows® and Mac® computers for quick installation, although reformatting is necessary for Time Machine compatibility.
For added security and peace of mind, the drive comes with a limited warranty and includes Rescue Data Recovery Services.

Any reason for me to prefer a WD RED or WD Plus over this shucked drive in a NAS where I don't care about noise? I think it doesn't idle as low power as the WD REDs but at this price it seems like a no brainer if these are inside?
