I've had my account since 2021. The cost of lifetime already paid for itself (compared to paying monthly). I use this primarily for new image and video backups as my music library hasn't really changed in years.

The download speed from the app is good. If I had to complain, it does take awhile for a full upload sync, but it has always completed.

I am sure there are elitists who will find something to complain about to justify their own purchases, but I am satisfied with the service. I believe they will be around in the future.

I will answer basic questions but dont want to debate on services...

"Windscribe is one such example. Lifetime changed to 10 years."

"10-Year Expiry" Date: While the plan may show a 10-year expiry date within the system, Windscribe confirms that it will automatically renew at the end of that term as long as the account remains active and hasn't been banned.

How's pCloud? If someone has to guess, how likely this company will last for more than 3 years.

Or this service will still be relevant in 4 years? What I mean is there any upcoming new technology such that the features provide by this lifetime services may not be enough/relevant anymore and will need to pay more to get some new technology feature, etc? Like the price of storage may drop so much such that this price may not be worth it in few year or with next generate of data/internet usage, the current shared link traffic speed may not be enough in few years, etc.

For this kind of money why don't you just... Host your content yourself?

You need to have at least one backup off-site. This satisfies that without the need to pay for any additional hardware/internet access.

I self-host my backups but also keep important stuff backed up with BackBlaze.

I'm always wary of unlimited upfront plans.
How can a company keep the lights on offering these prices/plans, while the competition offer market pricing?

"Too good to be true".

Might be fine hosting random data you can afford to lose. But I would not trust my backups or personal memory photos to this.

You are correct to be cynical. Lifetime doesn't mean jack. More often then not, lifetime offers are defunct well before such a deal becomes worth the gamble.

#notalllifetimedeals Obviously, there are exceptions. Rare AF. Plex is one. Although the new mobile app is not good, pushing their free streaming garbage and removing the list view of media titles. Looking at spending $99 for for an Infuse lifetime license. Firecore, the company that makes Infuse, has been around since the early Apple TV hacking days, and is liable to exist for the foreseeable future. However, one can never be certain.

For more about that issue, see this Reddit thread.

I was one of the people affected by the TextDrive disaster. Apparently Dean Allen was a great guy to people who weren't his customers, but sheeeeet.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TextDrive

I'm sure there are some people who will disagree, but I'm guessing none of those people have been screwed by a lifetime plan cut short.

Lifetime usually means up to 10 years to me because these companies are always looking to be sold or they end up going out of business. Once sold, the new owners will change the terms and cancel the lifetime plan.

Windscribe is one such example. Lifetime changed to 10 years.

pCloud stated the account can't be transfer so it make more sense for someone that's younger to get it. So seems like not a good deal unless you get your grand kids to sign up and let you use it and they can keep using it for their lifetime. :-)

How long will this sale go for. edit. terms say till 7/9/25

For those people who have already purchased this, is there any way to upgrade your storage size from say 2 TB to four or five or even 10 TB later? Or do you have to buy it up front? I think I would like the 2 TB but it would be nice to be able to purchase more as needed in the future on a lifetime basis. .

I'm also debating just biting the bullet and buying the 10 TB. Apparently arq for Mac supports this as an endpoint so I could have full encryption prior to upload and I already own the arq license
