Some of us like exercise.
A large % of professional athletes incorporate eMTBs into their training, for similar reasons they would use road bikes: MTB trails often push you past zone 2 or even zone 3, which can be unproductive - according to a wealth of reasearch. eMTBs - just like riding roads on your road bike or gravel etc, allow you to put in miles without pushing your limits going uphill. The eMTB adds the option of doing repetitive DH runs on trails, which you wouldn't get on the milder road or gravel rides, and doing so "fresh-er".

Plus, you can really go all-out on a eMTB still, nothing stops you. Will probably stop you from super-peaking out for HIIT, but you can definately push your HR hard.

You can ride it as a cheater bike, you can ride it for fun/super casually, you can just ride it because you are seriously oveweight and would never make it up some hills w/o it. These people would never compete with a zippy carbon XC bike like the OP, so, comparison is moot.

Riding bikes is fun, it is healthier than not riding them, and this of course includes eMTBs, which are not a menace on the trails and are nowhere as dangerous for other users of trails like eMotos/Surrons are, who try to squeeze their way into trails - threatening access for all 2-wheelers lately.
It was $1799 last year and demo ones even cheaper. Some changes are around suspension and minor things. But we all understand why we are paying more this year.

Folks for around the same price or less consider the Yamaha Moto e-mountain bike.

You get exercise on an e-bike, you just can go farther, faster and hills are much easier.

These are nice bikes, I own the Trail version. I upgraded everything on mine to make it what I wanted. Wheels, tires, bars, seat post, brakes, etc. These prices are OK, but not great. You are getting cheap components on a nice frame.
The real deal here is the Costco return policy. If you aren't happy, you can take it back, even if you ride it for 2 months. I found the group set to be cheap but worked pretty well. I didn't like the brakes. The tires were too light for heavy trail riding.

Are those even available? That sale was last fall and looked like a closeout.

Reviews indicate the majority of the bikes were manufactured in 2022-2023. Be aware it's been siting in a box for 2-3 years. Likely overstock during the pandemic when they made tons to try and meet demand.

Does it affect the bike in any way?

exercise and performance. I ride our Sierras a always a hoot to see a new rider with an ebike show up and get humbled and do the walk of shame with pushing the bike because of a flat and no clue how to change a tube, patch a tube, etc. or finding out they ran out of battery. I'm seeing a lot less of the ebikes this year vs the previous few.

I ride this every time I go out and it's a dream. I got it on the $1999.97 close out last year. Lots of smiles
