Is this strong enough to run Scotch-Brite belts?

There is both strength and clearance to worry about. I got a Wen a decade ago that didn't have thickness clearance for belts like that. Was a bummer. Hopefully that was changed.

No one thought that the low price was a SD?

I only looked because I own one and this model was mentioned in the Dewalt-20v-max-xr-brushless-cordless-bandfile-power-tool-belt-sander-bare-tool-only-$163.

With the right grit belt, I think you could sharpen a knife. I know for sure that you can shape a lawn mower blade with it.

I have one to work on restoring my rusty classic. I have no complaints. There are better ones out there, but at a significantly higher price.

I wouldn't buy this primarily to sharpen knives. I am sure you COULD but this is a not a precision type of tool. It is fine for sharpening an ax or something.
