People crapping on this book haven't read it.

The primary focus here is Adlerian psychology. Adler was one of the big 3 in early 20th century Europe, alongside Freud and Jung. His general line of thinking is that we adapt our lifestyle to overcome feelings of inferiority. Sometimes, this has bad results. So the point is to try to change those patterns of thought.

I think they only go with the Japanese angle because of the authors and this book having been popular in Japan. Because marketing, I guess.

I liked it, and feel it has a lot to teach, plus the writing style — a conversation between two people — is one of my preferred styles for this kind of thing.

nah that just lets people judge you. You need to give your opinion harshly(not this) and without prompting(like this). Then you will find true dislike.

If you shower at least some point in the few days before going you are already better than many in my area.

This is a load of crap. Japan is ranked 55th on the Global Happiness Index. The United States is ranked 24th. Wondering which country is the happiest? Finland. Dead last? Afghanistan.

I've read it and didn't find it particularly transformative. I think its depictions about trauma can be potentially very harmful. There's not even a real model here, I think it would be charitable to even call it a philosophy. It reminds me a lot of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged in that it tries to package a world of complexity into a few neat, tidy beliefs.
