Theoretically correct that it functions better in the cold than 0w but should be fine for summer as well.

I got 3 cars, 3 different oil weight spec.
0w-20, 5w-20, 5w-30
to keep life a bit simpler I run 5w-30 in the 5w-20 spec vehicle.
All have VVT... the 5w-30 is no problem for the 5w-20 spec motor, it was implemented to improve MPG.
Far as flow and wear, after 130k miles, the mpg difference is hardly noticeable. oil tests show no change in engine wear metals either.
