I can never find a single contractor to install third party solar panels, every one of them wants to be subsidized by installing panels they sourced and reselling for much higher!

Just pay them way more and they will do it obviously.

You need to find your way around the contractor. Look for fb groups in your area for construction or contractors. You can generally find laborers in your area that will work with you directly without a general contractor or sub contractor involved. I am planning to build a solar pergola so I don't have to worry about my roof and my insurance demanding I use higher cost solutions to install directly on the roof. If you plan to install on your roof, you are probably stuck playing the insurance game of spending too much money.

And one gets 30% tax credit on top of this and the labor ?

Can someone who knows compare this price to say a Tesla solar panel install to see how much savings are we talking about here .

I don't think you can actually get the shingles still if that's what you're talking about. Like most Musk stuff, he sells you on the idea of what it COULD be while he depends on you interpreting that as what it ACTUALLY is and giving him money for whatever else is on the table. This is Silicon Valley investment 101 stuff. He just managed to make a cult of personality around him and harness that leverage for his gain all around.

But if you're talking about actual solar panels, then apologies. Didn't know they had any.

1) Is this a good deal?
2) Does this come with the equipment to tie into your meter?
3) Can I get tax credits for buying this?
4) Any good videos on installing this?

I'm pretty handy, but I typically avoid doing anything on the roof.

What is the link between rooftop solar and insurance? Closing on a house and exploring solar options. I am not aware of this insurance angle

This seems like an insane deal. Those server rack batteries are typically $1k each. Plus free shipping for all of this gear and panels. Wow.
Answering the above questions:
  1. Seems super hot for those that may be in the market for this stuff.
  2. Not likely
  3. Yes
  4. Check Will Prowse for solar videos on youtube, however the installation of this can be quite labor intensive.

LifePO4 batteries: 48v batteries IF you find them on a deal are around 800-900 (each, before shipping)
Solar Panels: Unless you find a local dealer, there is a .20 - .30 cents per watt to go by, so you can figure ($1,968-$2952)
A 10kW off grid inverter typically goes anywhere from $1500-3000

So even if you could get everything on a deal separately you'd still be looking at upwards of $12-14k give or take not including shipping fees for pallets of solar.

You'll still need to factor in the amount of wire to buy and the time/research to get up to speed with wiring all this to the side of your house or in a shed somewhere.

That inverter looks like it's single phase 220 only? That seems like it's made for the European market. Could be a typo or it may actually do split phase but that data sheet on the eBay listing would give me pause.

From what I understand, if you get solar installed on your roof, and it is not done by a licensed installer, and something goes wrong, then your insurance can and likely would deny a claim to repair your roof in the future. Remember that you are screwing things in which could penetrate the water barrier and rot the wood or cause other damage to the frame of the roof. If your solar does that, and not a natural event, your insurance likely has a clause where they won't cover it.

They wouldn't cover it anyway. The solar companies give warranties for set times, but insurance doesn't cover water leaks over time like that, they only cover if there is some major failure all at once. If its a leak that goes on for years or decades and rots the wood they all have clauses that say you should have known/noticed in standard inspections or maintenance and that the issue is due to your neglect and thus not covered.

I believe the issue would be more if it caused a fire, since they would normally cover that, but if you did it yourself they may not, and would definitely not if you violated even a single code (they would dig and find SOMETHING no matter how obscure), and they probably wouldn't if they aren't UL listed, as thats in almost all insurance contracts. I'm pretty sure these aren't UL listed.

The guy in the comments that is building a solar gazebo away from his home and powering stuff in a shed or disconnected from his home has the right idea, unless you're an electrician and own the house outright and don't have insurance.
