As I said in the other thread, this is intentionally misleading to call it natural. Historically, natural peanut butter meant peanuts and salt, not palm oil. The arguments about health and deforestation are valid also, but this is NOT natural peanut butter. It's like calling GMO foods doused in pesticide "organic" just because there are multiple definitions of the same word.

But that's what makes it taste good. You ever had "real natural" peanut butter? Most of the brands I've tried taste terrible.

I agree with you but the way natural is used in food mean the product is natural, not that it's only the product it's supposed to be. And if you want to get technical, salt shouldn't be included either. Ever taken a look at Heavy cream? Organic includes "guar gum" and good luck trying to find any of them that are only milk and cream.

If I wanted "crunchy" peanut butter, I'd just eat peanuts. You must drink full pulp orange juice as well. lol

Thank you. Natural should mean the ingredients list has only a single entry: PEANUTS!

Sugar and palm oil are natural.

Heavy cream doesn't have to have additives. Heavy whipping cream generally will for better whipping.

Yep, Crazy Richard's. Only contains peanuts. I'd rather have that than almost any PB with sugar in it. Ever try it?

Yes, it's just as mediocre as every other peanut only peanut butter. At that point, I'd rather just not eat it.

I guess you must hate the taste of regular peanuts also.

Oh? Are sugar and palm oil not natural? You seem to be quibbling with the recipe rather than whether it's natural. Sugar is added for taste and most people like it. Does adding sugar to ice cream or cake make them any less natural? Palm oil is solidifier to prevent the peanut oil from separating, and most people prefer to not have to stir their peanut butter. Does adding egg yolk to mayonnaise as an emulsifier make it any less natural?

Ask yourself this: What exactly is natural peanut butter? Does peanut butter exists in nature? Where? If not, why does adding sugar and palm oil for taste and consistency make it any less natural? And what culinary or legal authority are you citing? Think about it...

Then go complain to the FDA and FTC for fraud. Hire a lawyer and file a class action suit. Go ahead, I dare you. Then come back and tell us what they say.

No, that's not the culinary or legal definition of natural. Show us the evidence if you think otherwise. The most basic definition of "natural" is "existing in nature." You do realize that peanut butter itself doesn't exist in nature, right? So why does adding sugar make it any less natural? Think about it.

FYI, the original recipe for modern peanut butter had sugar. Look it up. Edson called it peanut candy but the description says it has the consistency of butter. Here's his 1885 patent. Sugar is mentioned repeatedly.

You seem to have confused peanut butter with peanut paste. Peanut butter has had sugar since the late 19th century because it was considered a confection. And stabilizers like hydrogenated oil was introduced in the 1920s.

Good deal, but I'll pass on the palm oil and sugar. Nothing "natural" about that.
What's unnatural about sugar or palm oil? What culinary or legal authority prevents adding natural ingredients to peanut butter for taste or consistency?
