I was always mildly curious whether these made any significant difference in the ease to heat discomfort on those awful muggy sticky days where you HAVE to be outside for long periods of time and there's no option for any type of full-body cooling. Th
Seeing the $13 FP deal I had to make like a spoiled Chihuahua in a pink velvet skirt (and bite). Mine arrived today and after taking the 4 hours to fully charge it, I wore it outside (Midwest we had the coolest day all week at 81 when I was out walking around). I did notice that my unit only had two settings, not three. First being, what I assume could be referred to as "loud AF and LOW cooling" and thus one can deduct that the second second was obviously "Even Louder and MEDIUM cooling". If you can look past,or rather hear (or NOT hear) past the loud and somehow almost rudely distracting fan noise, the cooling level on the highest setting (again for me was the 2nd of 2) did actually provide a moderate sensation of relief in the heat. The way it sits on your neck is pretty comfortable,at least for me it was. The points where it folds in seem like generally generic points, with no intricate ergonomic idea behind it so dont expect any type of special design or ergo mold that really focuses on anything specific. It does have these two big metal plates on the inside which stay cool and help spread the sensation of moving air, however, I am not exactly sure if they are being cooled by some of the fan air or are just cold plates in a position where they're not exposed to or absorbing heat but either way they work well enough. All in all, is this a magical invention that will relieve your suffering in the hot sun and stay on throughout any type of movement, probably not. Will it last a whole shift of outdoor work without needing a 3hr recharge? Nope. Would this make outdoor activities under 2 hours like taking a walk, mowing your acres, hiking with your dog etc ..a little less torturous in the scolding sun? Yes, it'll do that. Is it worth the promo special price of $13 to use once or twice then gift to your aunt Cathy to wear to the outdoor flea market so she can tell all her friends about her awesome generous niece who wanted to make her life easier? Abso-clucking-lootely. Would I pay the supposed $30 retail price for this? Nahhh

Bro, I am so sick of seeing these and those other "turbo" personal fans promoted on the FP. Make it stop.

All these neck fans do is blow air. So if it's 100degrees out, it's basically blowing the same temperature into your face. They are all disappointing

FWIW.... Saw one of these out in the wild during at a Reds game earlier this week. It was Monday night, Cincinnati was 92 degrees at first pitch at 7pm.

I dunno. I mean, it was EXACTLY as large as I pictured it would be, but it still seemed really large. Not quite Marty McFly's Coast Guard Life Preserver large, but still the kind of large that looked like it was heavy and difficult to wear comfortably.

Not a deal breaker, but certianly discouraging. And the woman who was wearing it didn't look all that much cooler than those around her. She certainly wasn't Pinky Tuscadero cool. I was leaning toward buying, now having seen one in real life I'm leaning toward not, as it looks too "gimmicky" to me.

What you do kid, jump ship?

Science - this is sorta using a peltier effect to pull heat from the very sensitive spot on the body and definitely changing some temp radiation capability near your spinal cord on the back of the neck. Am I going to get one? tempted but only if it's truly a deal a lot of times you can find these clones for under 10 bucks for the same item.

I like the ones that blows cold air ( like a min ac ) better. This only blows the hot air that you are suffering at the time. It's a pass for me .

I bought this one the other day, its actually pretty good. The metal plate on the back of the neck I guess contribute to some cooling as it is linked to the fans pointing to the back.
Very possible the metal plates are used for thermoelectric cooling / TEC (Peltier effect). They use electricity to draw heat from one side of the plate, making it cooler, and usually have a heatsink and fan on the other side to shed the heat that's being moved there. Those 2-3 soda can micro fridges typically use these. The Sharper Image eye massager (great product) I have uses a TEC for cold therapy, and also can reverse the TEC polarity / heat flow for heat therapy.

I have several of these for our trips to Asia. They do help to cool you down a little in the 100 degree humid weather. However, I prefer this model better because the direction of the fans are adjustable and lasts longer. There is a similar model with 10,000mAh but it is heavier and almost $10 more.

Got mine today and it's ok. keeps you feeling cooler. the metal plates on neck help cool you down a bit too. Battery lasted many hours. Will try again tomorrow.

I also bought the "Tunise Neck Fan, Portable Neck Fan with LED Display, 360° Cooling, 3-Speed Adjustment & Whisper-Quiet Operation, Twistable, Rechargeable" which was front page deal.
This fan blows and cools you offer better based on the bigger powerful fans. But it's bigger on the neck.

So the trade-off is a bigger fan and more powerful fan OR a smaller unit with less powerful fan but has some metal that touches your neck to coool you off a bit.

I bought one; when it is cool out; it blows cool air. When it's HOT, it blows HOT AIR!
