I read the post again: add this product to cart with the Lightning deal by itself, then choose the subscribe & save at checkout. It came out as advertised sub $10, which is the best deal I've gotten on these Legendary products to date.
Edit: Subscribe & Save is now appearing for me and I've clipped a 40% off coupon, but the total is coming up as $16.49.
I think the trick is to visit the 40% off page [amazon.com], then add to cart for the Lightning Deal price of $26.39. At checkout is where you have to activate Subscribe & Save. That should allow all the offers to stack to get it for $9.89.
I was able to get the $9.89 price once I clipped the coupon, the product page was sufficient, then added this product to cart without any other items and chose the subscription option at checkout. <$1 each is slick for this.
This is the way to do it. Was also confused why it wouldn't work. But this worked
Follow up: I had to click on the 40% off page, then click on the item to go to the item page to see the lightning deal, then add to cart, then select S&S at the checkout screen to get it to $9.99.
