I have a VPN. Last week I changed my location to Brazil after seeing it online somewhere and got a year for ~$8. I think South Africa is good too from what I remember.

This was without a sale

Yes. That's what I do.
1) Cancel your auto-renew now
2) Set a calendar reminder for when it expires
3) Set up a Slickdeals alert for Alltrails
4) After expiration, your account will still be active without the premium features. If you don't need those features immediately, wait for this sale to come around -- which happens roughly every 3 months.
5) When you're ready to renew, use a VPN to visit the website from Brazil. You'll get a super cheap price. If you have one, use a credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees. If you've waited for the sale code to come around, it'll work and that price will be even cheaper.

I've run across confused hikers a few times on the trail who were trying to make sense of the app map or not getting a signal. Easy to carry a small topo map that will never fail one. Also adding a compass will absolutely solve one's problem. My former gf would argue with me on a return trek with telling me the wrong direction. When on an unknown little used or secondary trail, I'll leave trail markers to confirm the return hike. Could be a small rock stack, arrow in the dirt, and once I used small branches. Nothing worse than hiking the wrong way back after discovering a mistake. Been there.

I like free AllTrails for finding routes to take and getting trip reports, but don't think it is very good compared to several other apps at the paid level for the paid added features. GAIA, OnX, and others are significantly better for off-line usage and online route research beyond what is already offered for free on AllTrails.

I also couldn't with my current VPN. Downloaded trial of TunnelBear and that worked: https://www.tunnelbear.com/
Do I put a US postal code or Brazil postal code when using a credit card and will PayPal work for Brazil Alltrails? Thanks

a very counter thought to many who proposed VPN to get a cheaper deal. All Trails does so much good for the outdoor community that I feel $18 is a great deal for any one in US and shouldn't use the loop hole of VPN to save $10. My comment may be an unpopular opinion, but I really stand by it. Thank you to all all trail active users for trail updates, reviews, pictures etc. I truly appreciate, benefit and contribute.

I'm a current member. How do I take advantage of this? Do I have to create a new account or wait for my current subscription to expire?
I am current user and i turned off auto renewal so now whenever i opened Alltrails i get 50% popup ... I do not need offline maps so I am fine with free version ..
