I have never had a backpack last as short as this one. Within one year it had multiple rips and tears, zipper jammed and pulling out the threading, completely unusable. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BACKPACK.

I have a similar bag. New version Scansmart 2769. I really love the comfort when I keep 3 laptops and one iPad, headphones, battery charger for my international travel. More space for arranging lot of items in the bag. Also the comfort of keeping it on carry on and pulling. I haven't used Samsonite bags other than suitcase. Bags I would always prefer Swiss gear.
I see negative reviews on ripping better to buy the one I have. Good quality

don't remember needing to remove a laptop in recent years, is the split feature still necessary? or maybe TSA Pre made a difference

Novex is on sale for 60 on their website. I always had a good experience with samsonite bags. Very high quality and good value when you can find them on sale.

I paid $52.72 for this in 2022.

It's a nice backpack. I can carry all the tech tools I might need and plenty more. I've also used it for short 2-3 day trips. It has the best water pockets of all my bags.

It's a pretty large bag, though. If I could find the same bag but a little smaller, I'd prefer it. If I relied on public transportation every day, I'd want something smaller.

My experience with two of those 1900 backpacks is completely opposite. I bought one for myself sometime pre-covid and it's still going strong. I bought the other one for my kid in 2023 (off the exact link from Amazon, posted here). He travelled a lot with this backpack, fully loaded with 2-3 10-15" devices inside and loves it. None of them have rips, tears or jams.

I prefer the mini 1900, have had it for two years now, which is also on sale. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08172XTG7?th=1

If you have a smaller laptop (13"), I would have recommended the Swissgear 3573 but it seems that it's been discontinued and I don't know if its replacement [amazon.com] is as organized/useful. The previous version was, technically, only made for a tablet so you needed a small laptop like a Surface Pro or HP Spectre to fit. But it had lots of built-in organization, a sling-like side zip pocket on the front, and was super compact for day-pack use.

This backpack sucks… The zipper for the section that holds the laptop always unzipped… Broke a laptop because of it… As you walk the zipper slowly opens to the bottom, without your knowing.
