This reminds me of the book I bought on not procrastinating. I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

Where do you recommend buying digital books?

Kindle?
Apple Books?
Google Play?
Kobo?
Barnes and Noble?

Please explain why.
(I would greatly appreciate it)

I'm more interested in feature differences, pros/cons, etc. Of both the reading experience and the platforms.

- Text to voice
- Audiobook syncing
- Discounts / Promotions
- Better viewing, searching, reading experience.

I understand being frustrated giving more money to Amazon, or Apple, or Google, etc. I don't want to either.

I also don't want to get spread too thin between different platforms.

Amazon Kindle is easy for me because I'm a prime memeber, I also use Audible, so the fact that books can sync between Kindle and Audible is helpful.

Plus every time I choose slow shipping on Amazon, I get free credits to buy digital books.

But... I'd love to know if Apple, Google, Kobo, or BN have some unique feature or benefit.

I have also learned how to listen to Kindle books with Text to speech, so I don't have to buy the Audible version. The iOS ai voice is good, but not great. Audible with an actor or the author is far better, but many Audible books I have paid for a very bland/boring, and no better than text to speech.

I'm curious if the other platforms have text to speech? If so, how good is it?

Thank you for any information, feedback, and suggestions.

I sincerely appreciate anyone who takes the time. ๐Ÿ™

I prefer to read on my Kindle and iPhone when my Kindle isn't available and sync keeps my place in both. The Libby app changed the way I used to see my Kindle which was I can only read books that I've purchased. With Libby, you can link your library card, which is typically free from your local library, and borrow digital books in their inventory. Some books have long waits but that just gives me time to go through my personal backlog of books I've purchased. Not every book is available on Libby but I have access to two libraries and it provides a pretty wide coverage.I'm not an audiobook consumer so I can't provide feedback there. Hope this helps !

Yes, thank you ๐Ÿ™

I also have Libby. Do you use their app to read? Or do you use the feature that lets you read the library books in the Kindle app?

I haven't use my Kindle for a long time. How do you connect Libby to the Kindle? Is it a simple operation on the Kindle or do you have to download the book 1st and then move it over?

Same thing happened to me. It was a small book, but it's still collecting dust. Two years later unopened. Evidently, I needed to buy it.

I use the "Read with Kindle" feature to get the loan through my Amazon account to read on my Kindle or Kindle app.

When you borrow books from Libby, most books (not all) allow you to "Read with Kindle" which allows you to get a digital loan of the book through your Amazon account. Loans are usually 14, 21, or 28 days depending on the library you're borrowing from but if you don't switch books on your Kindle meaning you put it to sleep while reading the book, you can read it until you change books or until the you're forced out of the book through a restart or something.I still buy books that I know I will revisit like "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck" but using Libby and Kindle keeps me from buy every $2/$3 highly rated book on SlickDeals. Lol.

Your local library will likely have instructions on how to apply your card info. Or someone who can help with setup

I love the Libby App, too! I also have access to multiple libraries (city, county, state). I especially like being able to toggle between libraries and instantly seeing which libraries have multiple copies and has a shorter waitlist. For those who don't know - after you search for a book/audiobook: instead of clicking "borrow," click the two-color box icon with the plus sign in the upper right corner of each entry. This allows you to look at all availabilities among your libraries without having to switch library profiles. Bonus: The Libby App will auto-return your loan if you forget to manually return it. Or procrastinate on returning it because you've been procrastinating on reading/listening to your loan. And even if you procrastinate on reading/listening to your loan, it will still count as patron usage for your library and help the stats to fund your library's budget.
