In Consumer Reports recent tests on cast iron frying pans, the USA made Lodge beat out the Colombian made Victoria. The scores were close 77 to 74, respectively — but the Lodge also received CR Recommended and CR Smart Buy accolades.

I like both but Victoria are slightly lighter and I think the preseasoning is smoother and better as well. Also the handles are longer on the Victoria.

That being said, a 6" is nearly useless. An 8" is only good for one grilled cheese sandwich or half of a pack of breakfast links to put it into perspective.

I have both Lodge and Victoria pans along with other cast iron pieces. The Lodge pans are a bit rougher while the Victoria pans are smoother. I like both but I think they have different uses depending.

Check your local antique/thrift stores for the smaller cast iron pans. I picked up a Wagner #3 for $7 because it didn't have any branding. If it had the Wagner logo it would have been priced over $50.

8 inch is available minimum one would want. It would fit one small sandwich or make a small omelette.

I have a 12" Victoria that I use every day. For me it has been at least as good a performer, if not better, than my Lodge.
