I have zooz switches and like them.

The "old timey senior fan club" remark is probably because z wave is a dying protocol. That said, my experience (having come to z wave from Wi-Fi), is that the devices (so far) are much more reliable than my Wi-Fi devices, and it's allowed me to ditch a lot of noisy Wi-Fi clients (which may have contributed to my reliability problem). All Zwave is local network only by design, no silly round trips through some remote server, no silly apps constantly shoving ads in your face.

I haven't used a ton of z wave brands but the zooz stuff has been great. My experience has been that it supports all the latest zwave stuff, supporting s2 security and smart start out of the box.

Smartest house seems to basically be the primary zooz vendor. I'm not a fan of the $100 free ship minimum, but these sale prices are decent for zwave stuff. I have been waiting for the zen37 to drop back down (I think historical low is somewhere around $17) to buy a handful to use as a dimmer remote.

That said, if you don't know what zwave stuff is already you probably don't want it.

I use a Hubitat C-7 with Home assistant to function as my radio for z-wave and zigbee. A year or so ago some company was clearing out thousands of c-7s for $10/each, so I picked up a couple. They're only sort of stable, I have a plugin that reboots mine once a week.

I have a fair number of zooz devices. They're ok, they feel sort of cheap compared to innovelli, but they're also half the price. The remotes and scene controllers are fantastic though.

People have been saying z-wave is dying for a long long time. First zigbee was killing it, but then we realized that interoperability with zigbee sucked and that companies like Aqara were advertising zigbee, but intentionally making it incompatible. Then it was WiFi devices, clogging up routers and spying on you. Then they said Matter & Thread would kill z-wave, but the the roll out of those products has been some wear between slow and totally stalled.

So here we are. Home automation still sucks, and z-wave is still sorta the best of the worst.

Gonna give this one a pass. I got several Smart Plug ZEN04 800LR in Sept 2024 for $16.95. Going for $21.25 now. I'll see how low it goes when they try and reach sale #s at the end of the year. Good stuff though.

Indeed those prices are not as low. Yikes! Will I still buy? Sure, but 1-2 switches instead of 30, probably. Ouch!

Do you know something more than us ? Please kindly share.....According to my experience, as an smart home instalator, z-wave is getting even better that recent years. Wi-fi, Bluetooth, zigbee...cheaper, but for some reason. The main issue is safety. It is the reason that alarm companies implemented z-wave in their systems.
Since Amazon, Apple and others did not make z-wave , most of audience is positive that protocol is not a future.
The truth is z-wave is advance technology, require some knowledge from users and , especially, installers. So, that's why big companies avoid this , since would need provide well trained tech support. A lot of money....The better way is say that 'smart home' means turn the lights off and on plus set the temperature in the room. For z-wave, it is just a beginning.
Understand a lot of criticism coming from some users here. All advance technologies make some people scary. Good luck with wi-fi or zigbee anyway, as long as these accomodate your needs

I don't expect to see prices get lower unless tariffs come down. If all the hate is on z wave, I don't understand it from a practical standpoint. I've been doing "smart home" stuff for over a decade. Z wave has been pretty solid for me. Zooz stuff has come a long way, and I have been pleased with the stuff I have received.

Have you heard about 10-150 % tariffs ? Why expect to get it cheaper ?
On the other hand...they apparently offer to sell just several items with really deep discount. I can see the battery scene controller at the price never seen. Did you compare the price for this item ?

And it's back compatible with prior versions pretty seamlessly. In my set up I have some z wave devices that are over 10 years old, 500 series, 700 series and now 800 series. They all play pretty nice with each other. I may use this sale to update some of the pre- z wave plus devices.

Love Zooz, z-wave is actually awesome, but I hate the hubitat with a fiery passion.
