This is the first month the service has gone up in price (previously $11.99), but still a good deal imo if there are games in the service you're interested in.

How does this work? Assuming you lose the games when your membership ends?

That's up to you whether you want to do recurring for the subscription. You get a set of games(that you keep) every month along with discounts buying individual titles. The discount and any other perk will end when the next month starts(I think it's like the 5th of every month or something). Keep in mind not every game will be for Steam, pay attention to that.

So I just want these games one time. I just sign up, add cc, download games and cancel before the next renewal cycle?

No strings attached?

If you stay subscribed, then you get discounts on individual games like killua66 mentioned. It goes up; 1 month = 10%, 3 months = 15%, 6 months = 17%, and 12 months = 20%. Also, the new games get announced on the first Tuesday of every month and the games automatically unlock (when you stay subscribed and don't claim them early) the last Thursday of every month.
Anyway, just as everyone else said, you keep the games.
