So I bought this on an impulse last time it was posted here because I really wanted an induction rice cooker. I actually upgraded from a Zojirushi NS-TSC10 5-1/2-Cup which I absolutely loved and adored. I'll just go through a quick list of pros and cons and my summary on it.

Pros : has a great gaba brown rice feature, makes oatmeal with a better texture, rice grains feel more distinguished from each other, oatmeal setting tastes great, very easy to clean , interior bowl feels premium

Cons: machine makes some noise when cooking and isn't silent like other zojurishi, doesn't have a retractable plug, lid only has open or close without a halfway open option, rice takes about 10 minutes longer to cook compared to other model.

With all that being said, is it worth the upgrade? Kind of I guess. I really like the addition of a gaba brown rice setting and I don't think I can go back to normal brown rice. However it's maybe slightly better texture compared to my Zojirushi NS-TSC10 for white rice. Oatmeal I think is done better, but it does take much longer than stove top.
Honestly if you have already a decent fuzzy logic rice cooker and you don't feel inclined to try gaba brown rice I would say just stick with what you have. However if you only have a basic 20 dollar rice cooker and want a Lamborghini then definitely pick this up as I refuse to make rice in a rice cooker without fuzzy logic anymore

I love Zojirushi rice cookers and own the non-induction one, but this isn't quite a deal as it seems - the price went up from ~$243 just over a month ago to $328 and this brings it back to the regular $240-250 region.

Does this one play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star when you start the cooking process like my older white Zojirushi does?

Got my first Zojirushi last month and the hype seems real coming from a ~$10 rice cooker. The one I got is IR too.

I haven't confirmed, but the IR Zojirushi seems to take longer too cook at over 50min. Seems it takes time to cook rice to perfection vs regular/cheap rice cookers that just cook as fast as possible.

I hate it that I want this thing, I was happy with my 19 dollar Walmart rice cooker.

If you are happy driving around an economy car, then you have no issues.

When it was $272 and received $50 kohls cash was a better deal. Spent the money and never regretted buying this rice maker.

Perfection takes time.

Thanks! Missed the similar deal on this one from last week. Pulled the trigger this time. My 22 year old Zojirushi is finally starting to peel/scratch on the pan and cannot find a replacement.

Sincere question: what does this rice cooker do that a $10 rice cooker doesn't? I believe the hype because it's consistently positive….I just can't imagine it doing anything thins that justifies a 27x price. What am I missing?

Not sure if this one does but mine has a "quick" mode that'll do what the $10 rice cooker does. The 50min includes soak time for perfect rice.

Perfectly cooked rice. And it'll keep it steaming hot and perfect for the next couple of days if you cooked too much.

In terms of features, it can do quite a bit more. But the specialty comes from making rice a helluvalot better and consistently (your $10 rice cooker will have dry and/or soggy spots). That's the main thing most people buy these fancy rice cookers for.

Lol but even for me, this is pretty spendy. It's basically because it's "Induction" and "made in japan"

I have the "normal" $100ish (Made in J) Zoji that I'm sure does 95% of what this induction version does. Mine is what I consider a "buy once cry once" already. This $250 one is "buy once cry a litter harder once" lol

Agreed with the post above about perfectly cooked rice.

Ultimately, it depends on how often you eat rice. Is rice a once-in-a-while kind of food for you? Maybe not worth it. But if you typically eat rice several times per week, then it's a worthwhile investment to have a rice cooker that makes your rice taste as good as possible... especially given that these are tanks and tend to last many years. Got the 10 cup and haven't opened it and am out of the return window. Wish I would have gotten the 5.5!
