While this is a great deal, but if you can live with a lower refresh rate screen and slightly worse speakers, a used m3 MacBook air with 16GB RAM can be had for this price easily. It probably fits most people's use unless you want something specifically Pro offers.

But why? It's not like this is an 8GB model, and it's not like the M1 Pro is thoroughly outclassed and/or unable to keep up anymore. Not to mention, I think the base Air comes with 256GB of storage and this is double that, plus the fan will keep this laptop healthy for longer, AND the fact that this has a warranty whereas a regular used laptop would not

if you search on eBay, m3 MacBook airs with *16GB* RAM can be had for this price.you get longer OS updates, much faster single threaded performance, roughly equivalent multicore. you lose the better screen, but that doesn't matter much to many people.Just offering another perspective. This pro is a good deal too.

Probably a good chance very few if any of those include a warranty. With questionable previous ownership usage. Watched enough Louis Rossmann videos of used MacBooks and the crazy stuff they get exposed to makes me nervous buying a refurbished or used MacBook.

How much performance do you actually really need?

I run a M1 Macbook Air, and with firefox browser (w/ far too many tabs open) + email client + 2x chat clients + safari with a single tab + onenote + a bunch of background applications (dropbox, unclutter, istat menus, etc).....I rarely PEAK my CPU usage at 25%. Most of the time it's 15-20%. The M1 Pro is even faster AND doesn't get heat saturated like the Airs since it has ACTIVE COOLING (aka a fan, which Apple can't be bothered to put into so many of their machines -- a feature that's been in nearly every laptop since the dawn of time).

I use around 65% of my 16gb ram - I sneer at those who claim 8gb is enough. It never was enough, even a decade ago.

My storage is 1tb, but I got it on a fire sale back in 2023...I could comfortably get by with 512gb....256gb is possible, but snug like an economy airline seat on a budget flight.

And most people don't run as much junk all at once either like I do.

The little bit of burst performance people won't even notice -- but they'll notice a much better screen and speakers without hesitation. Though to say, the speakers and screen on the Air isn't all that bad -- especially for machine at this price point. You'd have to spend 2-3x as much in Windo$e-land to get anything remotely close.

Well, maybe that Louis guy needs to take better care of his gear -- laptops are portable gear, like phones and tablets. They get exposed to stuff all the time. It's up to the PERSON to treat them right -- not an innate failure of the hardware. My suggestion is to not buy anything from that Louis guy's shop, and you'd probably be perfectly fine.

I have this MacBook Pro and it's outstanding. To each their own, but I'd pick the better screen over a newer processor any day when it comes to choice. Mini-LED with insane brightest and 120Hz VRR? HDMI port and full size SD card slot. Can do all my work and then get into GeForce Now and chill out for a few hours. Terrific device.

I think its not about outclassed M1pro but age the concern on these M* series is no end user repairability. Ram ssd almost nothing so getting a newer model is the key here based on usecase for may m3 is a better option than m1 series in general
