I've bought two of these already in the past week, one for my dad and one to serve as a portable for my wife (not a gamer). They're extremely capable for the price.

I've already upgraded one- $20 to drop in an 8GB stick of DDR4 RAM (can confirm it has one slot open from the factory) and clone the SSD over to a 2TB stick I had extra. Both are immediately accessible as soon as you pop off the bottom cover- they're not buried under anything. With today's prices you can be at 16GB and 1TB for right at 300 without taxes.

I have a Vivobook 14 and had to replace the battery last week. It had 12 cycle counts and wouldn't hold a charge.

A Best Buy reviewer stated that the wifi card isn't supported but its easy to replace - along with easy access to an extra RAM slot and M2 drive. He didn't mention what distro however and I've had good luck with Fedora KDE seeing hardware on a couple of laptops where anything Ubuntu-based wouldn't.
I have an older Intel wifi card just in case, a larger NVME drive and an extra stick of 8gb DDR4 laptop RAM laying around so I'm seriously looking at one of these for a travel computer in a dual-boot configuration.
My concerns now are now BarryT82's comment about his battery and how bad the screen is.

I'm pretty happy with the screen so far, but I've only been through some basic use setting it to and pulling old files over. No complaints yet. No clue on the battery, but I've never had any issues with Asus laptop batteries. Given the power sipping chip, my assumption is that it'll last quite a long time away from the wall too.

I can't speak for Mint but I can speak on Zorin for a similar unit. I bought the cheaper version of this device at $129:

I installed an SSD I had around the house and loaded up Zorin. Works great. It's dual booting Windows 11 in S mode and Zorin.

Good basic Windows laptop. The i3 1315U should be easily enough for office work and surfing. Brightness is rather low at 250 nits but should be good indoors.

The 4GB are soldered on and there is no expansion slot. Buyers of that device are stuck with 4 GB of RAM for the life of the device.

Laptops with these components except for newer processor at this price have been for over 5 years. By now i would expect at least a 256gb and 16gb and an ips screen. Disposable vapes are having oleds.
