About this item:
  • MOST CONNECTED: Caseta connects with more leading smart home devices - including Alexa, Apple Home, the Google Assistant, Ring, Serena shades and Sonos - than any other smart light switch brand (Lutron Smart Hub, L-BDG2-WH, required)
  • CONTROL YOUR WAY: Caseta puts the smarts in the switch so you can control your lights a variety of ways - via the free Lutron app, with your voice, or from the wall. Create schedules in the app or activate scenes with a button (Lutron Smart Hub, L-BDG2-WH, required)
  • EASY 3-WAY SETUP: Create a 3-way by mounting a Pico remote to any wall surface - no cutting holes or pulling wire, with a wall mount bracket (PICO-WBX-ADAPT sold separately). Replace existing 3-way switches by mounting the bracket and Pico over the backbox
  • GET MORE, SPEND LESS: One Caseta smart switch can control many bulbs at once; make many bulbs smart, even your existing bulbs. Get smart control of multiple styles of dimmable LED, incandescent, and halogen bulbs (Lutron Smart Hub, L-BDG2-WH, required)
  • EASY AND PRECISE DIMMING: The soft-glow light bar and slider provide easy and precise control from the wall; preset allows you to turn your lights on to your preferred predetermined level
  • WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL: For added convenience, use with wireless Pico remote (PJ2-3BRL-GWH-L01) to turn your lights on, off, or dim and brighten with the touch of a button from anywhere in the home
  • PEACE OF MIND: Always come back to a well-lit home with Caséta; enable the smart away feature to randomly turn your lights on and off to look like you're home even if you're away (Lutron Smart Hub, L-BDG2-WH, required)
  • WORKS IN ANY HOME: Unlike other smart dimmer switches, Caseta works in any home, of any age, as it does not require a neutral wire
  • TECHNICAL DETAILS: Works with up to 150W dimmable LED light bulbs or 600W incandescent bulbs/halogen bulbs; not rated for low voltage applications (i. e. track or landscape lighting)
  • Includes (1) Diva smart dimmer switch for Caseta smart lighting and (1) coordinating Claro wallplate

No neutral required
Can add multi-way switching to single switched devices using Pico paddle remotes, which can be wall mounted anywhere without a back box
Hub not required if your just want to pair Pico remote(s) to the wired switch
Pico remotes can be used to control other manufacturer's devices if you use Home Assistant (I use one to control a roomful of floor and table lamps plugged in to ThirdReality Zigbee smart plugs)
Proprietary "Clear Connect" wireless connectivity doesn't require a WiFi connection.

I have a number of Kasa switches in the house as well, and agree that the Lutron Divas don't command a price premium if you're not leveraging the remotes or have a neutral available - I use the Kasas (dimmers, 3 way dimmers, 3/4 way on/offs, and single on/offs) wherever I have neutrals available.

I use the Lutrons to add 3 way switching at the top and bottom of stairs to upstairs/downstairs hallway lighting in a 60+ YO house. I also use them to add wired/wireless control to 'dumb" bedroom AC paddle fans with light kits - the lights/fans can be controlled at the doorway wired Lutron switches, or from the Pico remotes on pedestals located on bedside night stands.

This isn't a particularly good deal IMO, as it doesn't include a face plate or a Pico paddle remote; as another poster pointed out, I go to eBay to pick these up NIB from private sellers, usually paying ~$45.

EDIT: This one does include a face plate.

These are the best smart light switches for 99% of people. They're not WiFi based as you'll need a hub but they'll still work even if your internet went down. Always avoid WiFi based light switches. If you're more tech savvy, look at inovelli

Just to warn you, caseta is awesome but Lutron refuses to keep up with technology. They killed the iOS widget because it required updating (updates even the cheapest junk were able to manage), they have an API issue with Harmony's integration that has been open for over 6 months… Amazing product, but company clearly has no intention of keeping up. After spending thousands on their products, I am fearful they are going to be even more obsolete very soon. It's sad to see a company refusing to stand behind their products enough to spend a few thousand to update their apps.
Bro you need to get Hubitat or home assistant…

I cheaped out the first time and went with Leviton Z-wave switches for my house. It was about 1/2 the cost of Lutron at the time, but it was still a $2k project. I wish I had spent the money on Lutron because that z-wave mesh was constantly broken. Automations were slow and sluggish and some devices kept dropping and never responded correctly. Second and current house I went with Lutron Caseta without hesitation. I currently have about 60 devices on the hub and everything has worked flawlessly since day 1. I would highly recommend Lutron for smart lighting. Do it right and do it once.

A lot of WiFi switches can also cause networking issues if your router can't handle that many connections.

What happens when those integrations break and Lutron takes a year to fix it, if ever? Now you've spent more and end up in the same situation…

I would question that they aren't updating things or keeping up with their software. They. have recently made these new switches. And their app is pretty old - given what I was reading about the changes from iOS 17 to 18 - they would need a major redesign to re-support the widget.

In the end - this is still the best product both HW and SW in this space. I use a bunch of different stuff - zigbee, Z-wave and Lutron. These are just better. And they have support for them.

Firewall your Lutron hub from seeing the outside internet and you'll never have to worry about it. The integration is local, not cloud-based.

I've had the Lutron integration going for about 3 years now, without a hitch. The best part is - you can use Pico remotes to kick off any Home Assistant actions. And Pico remotes work far better than the cheap Zigbee/Zwave junk. And somehow - the batteries last damn near forever.

The Caseta system is pricey, but it's popular cause it simply just works. Go to electrician forums and you will hear the same - pros don't like installing garbage. And bonus points - it works well with power users with home automation systems like Home Assistant.
