Not a good deal -

You're not getting even half the power of the 4060 because they limit the wattage to 45W.

Would spend the extra 100 on the Victus at Microcenter that has a 5060 at ~100W

Cheapest 5060 at MC I can see right now is $899. Do you have a link?

Fyi, for those interested in local inferencing, 6GB VRAM is insufficient to run practically useful SLMs & MLMs. The 14B models are running around 10GB, and you want to run those entirely in VRAM. Imho, <14B param models ...you're really just doing PoCs or prototyping gen-AI apps.

Please educate us on how you know they are intentionally borking the GPU?

Truly thank you for the response and the link. It sucks they do that but probably have to cause the cooling is subpar.

Yeah this 4060 likely runs worse than a 4050 in real world with that. It's just meant to check a stat box off for budget buyers. Would rather have the Acer refurb that was on here recently for 600 or almost anything else.

On top of all that it's MSI Thin, which build quality is outright garbage on.

Any opinion on Quadro RTX 5000 laptops (16 GB VRAM, but old 17nm tech). Also, I thought mobile 4060 is 8 GB VRAM?

So the consensus is that the CPU is underwhelming and the GPU is intentionally underpowered due to poor thermals?

Right there are better options on sale right now (or at least as of yesterday) than this laptop at this price point on slickdeals.
