I've noticed that people often have questions about price/coupon matching, or have trouble executing price matches. I'm hoping to provide all the resources you need for successful price matches. Some of these policies are hard to find so I hope this list is helpful to noobs and veterans alike.

My first rule of price matching is to bring a printout of the store's PM policy with you. Before you, go have the relevant sections highlighted, this includes anything having to do with rebates, coupons, etc. This puts them on notice that you are serious and have done your homework. Nothing beats the feeling of having a manager contradict the PM policy, then pulling the PM policy out of your pocket and pointing to a section (already highlighted) that negates what he said. When that happens, you'll get your PM 100% of the time, and the manager will feel like a tool. Hopefully there will be lots of other customers nearby when this happens

These are the price matching policies of the most popular SD retailers, in alphabetical order. If you can think of any that I missed please add them to the wiki.

One thing to note is that some of the retailers above do not PM other stores but it's still helpful to know what their PM policy is. For instance, Amazon will give you a price adjustment within 30 days if they lower their price. I've been told at least twice that they cannot adjust the price once the product has been shipped. Then I respond with the blurb about price adjustments, along with a direct link to that section, and viola, I've got my price adjustment and an apology. (Amazon no longer offers price protection.)

anyone have any experience pricematching through calling circuit city's 8 number? i called them 3 times tonight to pricematch a movie that was cheaper at bestbuy, (100 vs. 50 dollars). They told me that they do not pricematch movies?!! when i asked why as their online policy does not exclude movies. their response was that movies were too small to pm. Should i call again, give up, push it?
Go to the store. Buy the movie. DON'T OPEN IT. Go back. Tell them you want the price matched. They should do it.

It's tougher to get a price matched out the door. They haven't sold you anything, you're a PRESPECTIVE customer. If you already bought it, you ARE a customer. Thusly, a lot of managers think of you differently, as in, You can RETURN what you have already bought, and they lose. But you can't make them lose a dime if you didn't buy it at all. It's funny.

A lot of places think of their price match policy as price protection and not the other way around, people more likely to return an opened item makes the store lose even MORE money. Example. I buy a hard drive at staples. I go home, I see the SAME hard drive on sale at Office Max for $30 cheaper, I go back to staples. I return the hard drive and purchase at office max. STAPLES lost my business, the drive, and my money. Not to mention, they can't sell it in store again, not without a discount or something. So they STILL lose even more, cause they aren't gonna get their set price.

So..lets take it this way. I take the drive back to staples, when returning, they ask why, I say it's $30 cheaper at Office max, they call and confirm, and they reduce and beat their price.. why? They - Got my Business, Made me Happy, Saved me 10%, screwed Office Max out of a Hard Drive sale, and did not have to deal with the returned merchandise, they may have taken a small hit, but that drive's value decreased when I opened the packaging so why not match it.

So it's a lttle easier to see the point there.. no?

Now take it from the point of I go in, I try to PM the drive to OM. Staples is gonna take a $30 loss, and I haven't even bought anything yet. They might say no, it doesn't hurt em, it doesn't help. But the manager just cares about the bottom line on that, a lot of them get paid bonuses to keep that stuff low. You screw them if your item is returned opened or used, they get hurt double bad. Sales down, returns up, Unsellable Merchandise, etc... their more apt to just match it.

on sears site it states they will price match local comp. online pricing (not just any online stores pricing with shipping)....so what about if i live in alabama and the store is online and located in new york? anyone had luck doing this or should i just order online?

i ask cause i bought a mount with my samsung 50" deal from the other week...i got it with 24 months interest free but i paid 500 and can get it shipped for 250 online. i was hesitant to get it there knowing i could likely get it online but it was the first mount after looking at a bunch of them that would meet my exact needs. and now that i know what to look for i want to get it pm'd or just return it and order online.

thanks

Last week my dad bought a bb grill at lowe's b&m. This week it went on sale, $31.00 less. Is he entitled to the Lowe's Price Protection plan?, or do you have to buy it on-line or order it on-line and pick it up.

Not sure what the in-store policy is but you have two options:

1) Go in with your receipt and demand they give you a credit for the difference.

2) If they refuse then just buy a new grill at the sale price and return it using the older receipt at the higher price. As long as you are within the return window they can't deny you the refund with the original receipt.

so....

I tried to PM at BestBuy tonight against frys.com. In my case, there's a local store in addition to frys.com.

It was past 9 pm when I was in BB and Fry's had closed. frys.com's price is $2299 on a TV and I believe the local store's price is $2499. Reading the fine print, if they'd gotten through to Fry's, BB would only have PMd to $2499.

HOWEVER, if I *bought* the TV at BB ($3200) then returned with the proof of Fry's price of $2499, the 110% policy would have made the TV $2410.

Confused

Does Target have a B&M PM policy? I have read their online PM policy but it does not mention any B&M PM policy. I know they used to but it's been a while and I want to use up some GC's but the same item is cheaper at Wal-Mart by about 20 bucks.

And at the Bed, Bath and Beyond link, it said. "Our coupons do have an expiration date and we ask that our customers use their coupons during the event period.

does this mean that now BBB coups DO expire?

thanks

Kmart is probably the only major retailer not mentioned thus far. Is Kmart's PM policy the same as Sears? I know nowadays it's tough to know where one ends and other begins with them sharing CCs, GCs and such, but I've only been able to find their online policies, and no B&M listed anywhere.

Great, informative topic, by the way.

If you pricematch a shoe on zappos and it ends up being too big/too small, can you exchange it?

Zappos still price matching? I thought they ended that before.

Anyway, JR.com is also very good at PM although the credit took a while to appear in my online statement and they are closed on Sunday LMAO

I see that Sears policy says they will price match online prices from locally deliverable retailers. I know Amazon is online only, no local presence anywhere.

Still want to know if anyone has ever had luck pricematching amazon at sears? Looking to get a couple Weber products.

Re: Walmart's Pirce Match Policy, if I print a circular or a "shopping list" that includes the sale dates, prices, sales products from the company's website, will Walmart honor the price? (example, Albertsons has capri sun for 1.50. They dont have an option to print their circular like Minyards. I put it on my shopping list with them and print it out. For some reason the circulars aren't coming anymore in the papers and its a little too far to drive for certain sales.
