How To Make Your SD Micro Card An Internal Storage SD (and Not a SD card Portable Storage)To Work With AppMgr III or Other SD Mover Android Apps

Revision: I notice we wanted to perform the 50% split for allowing to use internal and as well as portable SD storage that other Android apps can use for storage. Please follow my updated PDF guide that is attached, thanks!

NOTE: Please see attached PDF for a clean and correctly formatted layout, thanks!
Here is a guide by Motorola: https://motorola-global-portal.cu...720%2C9686

Goal: Why can't you make your SD Micro card to work with like popular AppMgr III (a SD Android app to move apps to SD card to save space) or other SD Mover Android apps?? And why does it said it was supported for SD Micro up to 128GB such as the SanDisk SD Micro card 128GB or the 200GB?

Why didn't work and the app doesn't do a great job of explaining the reason why. This is because even though your Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow see it and you can format it but it see it as a "Portable Storage" SD card and not as a Internal Storage.

Credits for finding the information after hours of hunting for them and gathering them into one spot to fix this SD Micro card storage issue.
Credits goes to Paul O'Brien @Modaco.com | Blake Stimac @ Greenbot.com | Chris Hoffman @ HowToGeek.com | Sam Lu (Developer for AppMgr III |

Simple Quick Steps and How To:
1). Unlock Android OS by going to Menu option> SYSTEM> About Tablet> Software Info> Tap with finger 5 to 7 times on the Build Number version to Unlock it. You will be prompted with "No need, you are already a developer."
2). Go to Menu Settings> Developer options> click OK> Toggle on for Developer options and under sub-menu Debugging> USB debugging to "On". NOTE: The rest of the other option can be "Off".
3). Get the ADB Tool only by downloading: android-sdk_r24.4.1-windows.zip and check Update via rev. 25.1.7 & Android SDK Platform-Tools.
4). Go to you unzipped location where Tool is at C:\android-sdk_r24.4.1-windows\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools and open the Windows Command to this location.
5). Connect your micro USB to USB cable from your LG G Pad X 8.0 (or smartphone or tablet) to your PC's USB port.
6). From your Android notification top drop down menu > pick the USB Circle icon and change option from Charging to "File transfer".
7). Back to the Windows command box type in adb devices. If detected device you should see your tablet. Another hint is when changed to File Transfer option your Windows OS should detect the connection via file transfer type.
8). Now that it see it. Type in from the Windows Command 'adb shell'.
9). Your command should change to shell@b3:/$.
10). Type in mixed 50. NOTE: Putting the ' does not work as part of the command.
11). Go to check your SD Storage to see if it included the SD Storage space as the whole total for the Android OS.

This is the end to the short quick guide. Below is the full detail guide.
NOTE: The LG G Pad X 8.0 does support SanDisk 200GB Ultra MicroSDXC UHS 1 (SDSDQUAN-200G-A4A).

=============================================================================

Detail Step To Step Guide:
Tools Needed:
1). Android SDK Manger Need [by downloading it]:
• Android SDK Platform-Tools
○ Download From https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html Search For "
android-sdk_r24.4.1-windows.zip"
Platform SDK tools package Size SHA-1 checksum
android-sdk_r24.4.1-windows.zip 190 MB 66b6a6433053c152b22bf8cab19c0f3fef4eba49
No installer (199701062 bytes)
○ Unzip and put it in the root of your C:\ with the folder named "android-sdk_r24.4.1-windows"

How To Enable The Simple But Tricky Hidden Fun Ways To Enable The Developer Options.
To Unlock your "God Mode" option ; > Go from your "Gear" icon Setting Menu Option> About Tablet>
Software Info> Build Number option and use your finger and Tap it 5 to 7 Times to Unlock your cool option Developer Options Mode. Right after you tap it a few time it gives you message like you are becoming a developer or some like similar message.
• After you enable the Developer options and Turn the On button by toggle it right under the Debugging> USB debugging option.

Be aware if your USB is only function as in Charge Only mode it will not be seen by ADB or Windows OS.

Tap on the USB Circle Icon and change it to File Transfer.
NOTE: You have to choose "File transfer" for your Windows 10 to see it. I just did the "Just Once" and not Always. Although I before you can go back to the USB notification icon and change it to your liken.

You will also be prompted to ask if you wanted to allow the USB Debugging connection. Check it allow and click on OK.

Go to the subfolder location (platform-tools folder) where your ADB.exe file is located. Highlight this folder, "platform-tools" and hold down the Shift keyboard key and select> Open command window here.
NOTE: Even my was run on Administrator Mode it is not required.
You may need the Google driver or the Manufacturer's drivers:
For our model LG G Pad X 8.0 V521WG Driver:
Go to http://www.lg.com/us/support-mobi...WG#manuals and on the right click on the Software Icon link.

Get the LG Bridge for Windows or Mac driver that includes the LG Mobile Drivers or just click the LG Mobile Driver download link to get it. Install one of these application.

For other manufacturer's driver go to this website for details: http://www.howtogeek.com/125769/h...e-utility/

MasterQ, I just followed your write up and got this to work. thanks a bunch!

just wondering, according to AppMgr III I have to leave Amazon Video App in the internal storage. Is there a way to save the videos I download (or the whole app) to the SD card?

Thanks!

Yes, in order to do that you will have to run the other command for the mixed split. Before you do this you might wanted to move everything back to your internal storage or backup it as it will delete everything off your SD card. See my updated guide.

I haven't went back to reformat my SD card but Tried downloading speedtest master & amazon video app, both still installed to the internal memory. Unit converter app did install directly to SD card. I thought all app would go directly to the adopted storage?

So I tried this out with the intention of using ADM to download stuff directly to the SD card. The SD card shows as 16gb and internal storage as 16gb as well. That's all good and fine but I still can't use ES Explorer to create a new folder on the SD card without being prompted about root permissions. And the only option for changing the download location on the SD card is to use a "temporary location on the SD card" - that's fine but you can't easily move the downloaded files from that location at another time (e.g. if I download to a directory and want to run Sync Me to move the files across the network, deleting the copies on the SD card) because it complains about write permissions, etc.

Any idea on how to get this to work? I'm able to do this on any of my other devices. Is it because this device isn't rooted?

If you get a "device offline" error, try a different USB port. My front panel ports weren't supplying enough power. Moving to a USB3 port on an add-in USB3 card things worked.

If none of your ports work, it might be worth trying things with a powered (as in has an AC outlet power supply) USB hub. I've "fixed" problems with many USB devices over the years by putting a powered hub between them and the computer. If the device draws too much power, the jack on the computer "browns out" and doesn't work right.

Does this work for the Canadian version? LG G Pad III 8.0 V522? The only difference I know between the two is the LG V522 has 16GB Internal with 2TB External expandability.

Can someone tell me if any music player app can see and play files from a usb drive inserted into this tablet? The app File Manager can view the files, but when using music apps like foobar2000 or bubbleupnp, they cannot recognize that a USB drive is attached.
