I am creating this thread only because I posted this information in other threads and found out that not many people realize you can use costco codes ( which tend to net out lower rates quite a few times) without an active costco memership.
I am not saying this always gives a lower rate , just more often than not , so worth trying before you book elsewhere.
YMMV because some people have reported being asked for a costco card at the rental location. So I would keep a backup fully refundable rental just in case. FWIW , I have not been asked for my costco card over about 2 years at airport and local locations with Enterprise , Avis and Budget. Have not rented with alamo through costco yet.
Here is how I do this
- Goto https://www.costcotravel.com/Rental-Cars. Codes for Enterprise , Avis , BUdget and Alamo are available on that page
- Click on " Low Price Finder" to find the best option for your location and dates .
- Once you know which Car Rental Agency you are going with , goto their website and use the codes from Step 1 above on the Car Rental Website. You maybe asked for costco information but that field is optional. You can even put an inactive / invalid costco membership number. I have never been asked for a Costco ID at the rental location.
- Do not try to book through costco website as that would need you to put costco membership information.

I lived in NJ for almost 4 years without a car and rented at least once a month or even every two weeks, mostly in EWR airport location, but also in some Enterprise neighborhood locations as well.
I'd say 80% of the time rates given by these brokers are going to be much lower than ANY rates you'd find on Expedia/Hotwire/Amex Travel and such - at least this was the case for 2011-2014 - maybe something has changed since then. I think the best offer I got from them was around $90 for a week all included (incl. SLI and even LDW/CDW) in CLT - nothing even close to that from any other websites.
P.S. I also found Dollar to be the most cumbersome rental company to work with in EWR area. _Every_ single time I ended up renting with Dollar I had issues of different magnitude - at some point I started cancelling reservations if they showed Dollar as a rental partner...
Note that the COUPON CODES that OP posted are only examples.
There are many codes within on rental agency. Budget, for example, has 10 different coupons.
So don't just go with what OP posted because they are examples. Follow the posted instruction.

When I'm driving away in a vehicle that I wanted to start with, but couldn't touch for less than $45 a day with codes, and my total cost works out to $30 a day, I could really care less at how the sales agent had to input it into the system. I know that the upgrade is not free, it's just what the agent puts it down as. You help the agent get their quota by spending $45, and they give you $100 in upgrades.
