So what's a reasonable cash price for an exam and single vision glasses? For better or worse I gave up my vision insurance this plan year.
Glasses prices are some of the biggest scams going so it really depends on what you need and whether you want Designer frames and the like. If you have you prescription, then I found getting glasses online from places like goggles4u to be the best option. For me, I can get 2 pairs of transition progressives with the automatic shading in sunlight, etc for around $100 with coupons. The same glasses from the optometrist cost like $190+ each even with VSP insurance. Obviously your choice of frames is limited, but I am not trying to impress anyone as to drop 100s on designer eye glass frames lol, but that is me.
As to Vision insurance, I researched this as well and came to the same conclusion you did...namely it is not worth it. Most of the savings is in the eyeglasses, which are basically a ripoff and you can do better online.
Nothing in NJ...NY seems to have them for $19, which is still a pretty good deal. Anyone know what they do in the exam and how good their doctors are generally?
Go to COHENS OPTICAL , same $20 for eye exam, been doing that for ages .
Just google there $20 eye exam offer
