I tried to upgrade another Orico some time ago (another type of enclosure) - and it just stopped working. Luckily, I was within the RMA window - so just exchanged it.
I guess I am saying - do the firmware upgrade ASAP after you get it.
Are these primarily used for storage? Can they efficiently/speedily run a game installation?
Typically used for upgrading storage and in lieu of carrying around a larger portable hard drive or slower flash drive. It should work fine for storing games.

No issues. I use it as Time Machine drive and also fast usb-storage, APFS for Mac only use and exFat for one that I share with Windows (basically my fast USB thumb drive)
I like the version with SATA and NVME so I don't I have to remember which enclosure is which. I tried to do it by color but that failed quickly when I acquired all 4 colors.
Have 2 of those from Amazon. Happy so far. Use one as a permanent external usb drive. Other one as usb on the go. Both work well so far. Speedwise, it's 10gb, not 40, but that is expected at this price.
Drives I use are crucial p5 and samsung Pro 990. Bought them for a new build, but since I am still shopping for a graphic card, I am using the drives as usb. Have written around 10 gb each. I haven't had any issues.

Great. Exactly what I was looking for if the SATA and nvme model works.

Gotta catch em all, haha. Seriously, I assume you like it enough to buy all colors?
