You really need the 8 ports vs the 4 or 5 of the smaller switches, you lose one for the uplink and depending on how many devices you have it just goes up. I have 12 active ports on my 16 port...

I also agree, those $18 TP-Link SG108's are more reliable than these Netgears 308's. Netgear still has their 108's, but they hardly get down to TP-Link's price for practically the same device.
