With most credit cards it’s the “full amount” meaning after coupons and stuff. If you only charge partial they’ll only be able to refund that amount if they cover a claim.

The 10 dollar gift card isn't free. They charge you 10 dollars for it. In other words, I've been charged 85.50 for the Apple card and 10.00 for the gift card. That's why you lose the 50 cents.
