Don't put eneloops in. The voltage isn't high enough and the detector will see it as an empty battery.

Smoke/CO detectors main purpose is to prevent you from dying from smoke or CO inhalation. Unless it's a small fire you can put out yourself, most damage you will have is from water and not fire.

It's battery powered, and from what I read, it cannot be hard-wired. For a house with existing hard-wired non-smart detectors, I would say this is a bad choice.
