Got this today and gave it a try. Paired it with a 30 dollar 7' medium/fast Laguna rod from acadmey. Good combo for the money. I've tried a lot of sub 50 dollar reels from the Abu Garcia black...

Baitcasters make fishing so much more enjoyable. The birds nests you will indeed get make it miserable. Now it will depend on the weight of the lures you are throwing. 1/2oz and up you shouldnt...

A quick search on Google shows this reel for sale for about a buck cheaper on Sport Best Shop (served up by aliexpress.com) with no tax and free ship. Not sure on the reputation of this site...

I have a casting rod that I recently used for pier fishing, wished I had bought a spin rod instead.

Thanks for the help. Ended up cancelling and buying a sixer and that video game where you can pick up the hookers instead. That should shut them up for awhile.

Thanks. I changed to the KK superpower braided @ $14.98 for 327-yards. I was not dropping almost $40 on the alternative. :)

That braid will be fine. But for the price you can't beat the KastKing braid. For the same price you can get yourself a 300 yard spool. That will allow you to respool the reel in the event you...

Thanks folks. I am going to pick up a rod and give it a try. I remember "birdnesting" more than one time in my days, so I am not concerned with that. Cut and burn. I would be casing anyway - the...

I have the exact opposite opinion about this. I started with a pole, then spincast, and had the option of going to spinning or baitcasting. The spincast reels have always felt super awkward to me...

It's actually pretty easy man. I just started on a Shimano Citica a few days ago. Just adjust the spool tension and thumb it. I don't even mess with the braking. You're thinking too hard.

Baitcasters are a learning curve. After googling and watching some YouTube videos and finding yourself by the water, just remember these words "loose spool tension=birdnest" "Birdnest=wasted time"...

It's harder than spinning reel for sure.. but if ur experienced in fishing spinning reel, doesn't take long to learn, again setting the inner break to 3-4 will save u the frustration of line tangling

It's actually easier to use a baitcaster with braid, but when you bird's nest with braid, forget about it. Mono is less forgiving in this sense. But if you are comfortable with using the...
