correction: i learned that the bracket is only 11in wide. so you wont be able to drill holes to make the 16" o.c. but 2 big lag bolts in the center holes into a stud should be fine.

i can be 100% positive, but im pretty sure you will be able to drill a hole in the bracket to hit any stud you want. if the bracket is too thin you can always add a thick strap. plywood is a good...

Well said. My first question when I saw the 12 inch spacing was "Why would anyone make this?" but I guess this would be suitable for concrete/brick installations.

You could just mount it to a piece of 3/4" plywood that does span the 16" studs. Mount the bracket to the plywood with carriage bolts, screw the plywood to the studs.

Problem is the wall bracket is not wide enough to catch 2 studs on most wood framed walls. I have to think of a wider bracket to modify it.
