I bought 8 $20 GCs last month in 8 transactions using 8 different AMEX cards ... no issues.
P.S. No chip readers, cashier swiped my card.

that's what the lady at boston market tried to tell me yesterday. cash only. then i got her manager to come over and the manager said credit card was ok.
